The Kindred is an affectionate term I give to those who allow me to post their Christian book reviews on The Vessel Project. The Kindred Facebook Group began as a way for me to present all the book review requests I receive from authors, publishers or media representatives to other authors and emerging authors that post Christian book reviews on their websites and blogs.
Basically, I needed an outlet to help these new authors because I simply cannot read all the books that come my way. I wanted to help these authors so I created a secret Facebook group (because of information like email addresses etc.) to list these book review request. If a Kindred member wanted to review the book, I either forwarded the information to them or referred them to the requester.
Since the redesign of The Vessel Project and My Lemony Snicket Weekend (my attempt to help new authors by offering user created content), I’ve decided to use a different tool to collect and present books available for review. I’ve decided to open the doors of The Kindred Facebook Group to other Christian book reviewers. Instead of posting the book review request here on The Vessel Project, I will post it on The Kindred Facebook Group.
The Kindred Facebook Group began as an invitation only group so opening the doors to The Kindred to other Christian book reviewers is beneficial to all involved but to be added to the group does have requirements. The current members were invited because of the quality of their reviews and the way they expressed their thoughts in each book review. The following requirements for Kindred membership are few but mandatory. In order to join The Kindred Facebook Group where these book review requests are posted, you must …
- Have an established blog (at least six months old) where Christian books are reviewed
- Post at least one Christian book review per month
- Agree to protect the confidentiality of any of the information shared in The Kindred
- Give me permission to republish your Christian book review(s) here on The Vessel Project
By opening the doors to The Kindred, I hope to accomplish these three things: 1) offer authors a larger group of reviewers to present their book review request to, 2) provide Christian book reviewers a place to share book review request they receive with other members of the The Kindred group, and 3) connect members to new readers by promoting their reviews on The Vessel Project.
Members aren’t required to review any of the books presented in the group but being part of the group does allow you to the benefit of seeing what Christian books are available for review.
There is no fee charged to the authors and no payment given to the reviewer, except the copy of the book. You must, however, post the standard FCC disclaimer on your blog post that you received the book free and cite the source (the author, the publisher or the media group–not The Vessel Project or The Kindred). You can leave the group at any time.
Think of The Kindred Facebook Group as a repository of Christian books available for review.
If you are interested in becoming part of The Kindred, please send me an email with your name, your blog URL, a FB link and an email address using this CONTACT FORM.

I can’t send an e-mail using the contact form. It continually says the “capta” number is wrong when it isn’t. I am willing to send my info if you can contact me at dsafford001@yahoo.com
Thanks!
