I asked a few author friends to write a love letter about their husband or wife. This is the first in the LOVE  LETTERS series.

I hope you enjoy reading about the true life loves of the authors of some of your favorite books.

Julie Lessman reveals who inspires her romance novels.

A Love Letter to my Husband by Julie Lessman

I have a confession to make: I’m addicted to romance.

I’ve been married almost 38 years to this wonderful man, in a relationship that’s one of the most romantic I’ve ever seen. But … would it qualify for the Romance Hall of Fame?

True, Keith brings me coffee every morning, holds my hand in the car, and sent me roses when I gave birth to his son and daughter. But as far as a heart-melting, knee-weakening moments that swept me off my feet? I was alarmed to realize that I—a card-carrying romantic—was drawing a blank.

And then I thought about what romance is really all about; being cherished, being loved, and being made to feel you’re the most precious thing to someone.

It’s Ephesians 5:25 in a nutshell—“husbands, love your wives,” the very reason romance sales exceed $1.08 billion each year.

–> Because women want to be cherished.

–> Because women want to be loved.

–> Because women want to feel they are precious to someone.

Suddenly I realized Keith does that for me every day of my life.

He loves me with a tender look, a lingering kiss, or just spooning at night. He loves me by saying he never gets tired of being with me (yeah, I know, his boredom threshold must be pretty high), and he loves me while dancing with me at weddings when I know he’d rather have a root canal.

And then there are all those times he took my side in front of the kids, even when I was wrong  followed by gentle conviction and prayer when we were alone.

Love is a big, hulking guy reading my debut novel instead of Sports Illustrated and then tearing up when tragedy befalls a favorite character. Love is me swooning at the sink when he kisses me from behind, purposely mimicking a scene in my book.

It’s a man who makes me feel like I am the moon and the stars to him and tells me life with me is never dull.

Yep, my name is Julie Lessman, and I am a romance addict. And my husband is my biggest supplier.

Julie Lessman’s tagline is “Passion With a Purpose,” which underscores her intense passion for both God and romance. A lover of all things Irish, she enjoys writing close-knit Irish family sagas that evolve into 3-D love stories: the hero, the heroine, and the God that brings them together.
